Task 036b  ADD MP3 capability to Audacity
The MP3 filetype is a copyrighted format.
It is a compression method that reduces the size of sound files, and thus the amount of disk space needed for storage, typically by a factor of 10 without noticeable reduction in sound quality.  It has become the format of choice for digital music files used in portable players – hence the generic designation ‘MP3 players’.
The owners of the copyright, LAME, do not permit creators of freeware programs, like Audacity, to include it in their software.
LAME, however, makes the MP3 format freely available for non-commercial use.
It is necessary to download the library code and add it to Audacity manually.
